David Howard has a recruitment policy based around training, career development and staff retention. We have found that if we train and retain staff that this leads to a happy working environment and that through skills, client knowledge and an enthusiastic approach to our work, we work more effectively with our clients.
We are extremely proud of our staff. No matter what position within the firm, we look to give everyone opportunity for career development and increasing responsibility. Throughout all roles we give provide external courses as well as working hard at development of skills and abilities using our internal resources. Two of our Partners and four of our Managers have gained their professional Accountancy qualifications with the firm. Our staff retention is excellent and although a relatively young Company, the average length of service now extends to over 8 years.
We are proud of our status as an approved employer and training office for ACA, ACCA and AAT. As such it has been recognised that we follow best practice in the support and development of trainees. We have an experienced training principal and a structured training programme to ensure all trainees are fully supported in all aspects in obtaining the professional qualifications.
We have built up strong relationships with our Business Associates and through these relationships, our associates have been pleased to run seminars and have regular communication with us to form a part of our continuing education and staff development. Examples have been advanced training courses and seminars covering Accounting software for medium sized businesses, IT skills courses (SQL, Crystal Reports), Wealth Management and IHT, Pension Planning, Investment products and Strategy, Tax Saving Products and Schemes.
We believe that coming to work should be enjoyable. We expect our staff share a common enthusiasm and drive through their commitment and hard work, but we do this with a smile and enjoy every success that we and our clients attain.
Flexible working
We have for many years offered a commitment to flexible working. Our paperless office is one of the ways we have improved the efficiency of our own business, but has also helped in this respect. Flexible hours and home working have enabled us to help staff with responsibilities and commitments return to work, and balance family and other commitments as well as their work/life balance. We believe that this approach benefits our clients through the retention of quality and motivated staff. The ease of access of information makes communication efficient and clients benefit as we are quickly able to give answers and solutions. Our office is often staffed from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and because flexible working senior staff are encouraged to access emails etc through a long day and will often respond outside normal working hours.
